Audition FAQs

  • Auditions are open to young singers in New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester who love to sing! We welcome children of all backgrounds and experience levels.

  • The chorus is open to children in Kindergarten through 12th grade. We place singers in appropriate ensembles based on age and experience.

  • No prior experience is required! We do expect some level of musical literacy for children in grades 6 through 12. We are looking for enthusiastic singers who can match pitch and love making music.

  • Audition Guidelines

    Grades 6-12 (Concert Choir & In Harmony)

    Young singers should have strong music reading skills and prepare one or two pieces that showcase their voice. Suggested selections include:
    Art songs (e.g., Sebben crudele, Sure on This Shining Night, Caro mio ben)
    Musical theatre (e.g., The Sound of Music, West Side Story, My Fair Lady)
    Western folk songs (e.g., Shenandoah, Wayfaring Stranger)

    • Memorization is not required.

    • Singers may perform a cappella or with an accompanist (must provide their own sheet music if using piano accompaniment).

    • Auditions should be prepared as if for a major performance.

    Grades 3-5 (Intermezzo & Allegro)

    Young singers should prepare one song of their choice from selections such as:
    America the Beautiful
    Do-Re-Mi     (The Sound of Music)
    Simple Gifts

    • Memorization is not required.

    • Perform a cappella or with piano accompaniment (must provide their own sheet music if using piano).

    Grades K-2 (Minuet & Prelude)

    Younger singers should prepare one simple song of their choice, such as:
    Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
    A nursery rhyme or children's song

    • Memorization is not required.

    • Perform a cappella or with piano accompaniment.

  • Auditions typically last 15 minutes and are designed to be low-pressure and fun!

  • Auditions will be held at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in  New York City. More details will be provided upon registration.

  • You can sign up for an audition beginning on March 1, 2025. Auditions will take place May 5, 2025 through June 15, 2025. Be sure to sign up early, as spots fill up quickly!

  • After auditions, parents will receive an email notification regarding their child’s placement in one of our ensembles.

  • The cost for auditions is $30! However, tuition fees apply upon acceptance into the program. Financial aid is available.
